Leg 3

I'll put my faith in the outside again going with the 5 and 6. However I always like to have a price and theres one in here that does scare me so I'll be throwing in the 3 for hopefully at least a fun will pay. Lets look closer:

1- A very nice horse no doubt. The race last time was actually much more impressive than appears on paper (i was there in person to see it). She broke very poorly and came flying like an express train. Granted the fractions were fast and the field wasn't breathtaking, it was still very visually impressive. However at 9-5 I gotta beat her coming out of a race with a suspect field and a beyer that was clearly aided by the scorching pace.
2- This one could be dangerous. An improving 3 year old is always danger. She has faced some tough competition in the past and is finally figuring things out. I just dont think she is quite good enough for these.
3- As I said earlier Dutrow is the best at training a horse up to a race and that is the position we find him in again. The horse seems to have an affinity for Belmont. You might wonder why i say that but the debut here was better than looked. Breaking from the rail, always a tough task for a first timer, she faced some very quality horses including Casanova Move and Light Green. I'm honestly not sure who will get the lead in this race but it will either be this one or the 6 and if i had to bet my money is going here. After that bet, I'd bet that the 6 takes off this horse giving her an easy lead making her even more dangerous. Call me a price hunter but this one looks talented and dangerous, especially on an easy lead.
4- Maybe this made a big improvement as a 3 year old and grew a lot and is a nice racehorse. But shes going to have to prove that to me. From what I see she is not in the same class as these. She hasnt race in almost a year so there is definite room for improvement for this filly making her 3 year old debut. Another trend we've been seeing is the improvement horses make from synthetic to dirt so thats another positive here. Lets give her this one and see what happens. Gotta let her beat me.
5- I love the improvement this one keeps showing. I love that she won off a nice layoff. I love that shes won on the lead and from way back. I love the Assmuessen, Bridgmahan combo. I love the post. Lots of positives. Shes in.
6- My top pick gets the best post. This horse has been going farther than she has wanted to go for awhile now because I believe Pletcher knows he has a talented horse and had to give her a shot at some of the big races. Now she is back a distance I think she will prefer with the best post and if she can avoid a duel with the 3 and sit just off in 2nd she should get the best trip. On top of that I love the work on Sept 10. 5-2 is a fine price for me and I'll take it.

So theres the play. Put em together and you get 3,4,6,7 with 2,7,8 with 3,5,6 for a 36 dollar early pick 3. Good luck!

Leg 2

I may be a Bruce Levine hater but I'm against both his short priced horses in the first two races. Give me the outside three in the 2nd. I'm gonna go with the 2,7,8. Let me explain:

3- Not the same horse he once was. Not good enough anymore unless he magically reverses form. No reason to expect that.
4- Never turf, long layoff, in for a tag for first time. 3 strikes, your out.
1- The class of the field. On the way down in his career. He may have a few more decent efforts in him but I don't think hes worth 2-1 in any way.
5- Would take a perfect storm for this 50-1 shot to pull this off. There are some signs- new trainer, last race was a step in right direction, stepping up in class. God bless him if he wins but I'll let that perfect storm happen.
6- Out of the same race as the 7 and 9 and was simply much worse. The race before doesnt offer any potential either. Another one that would have to rekindle some old magic to win.
7- My price play in the race. Takes a slight drop which may be exactly what the doctor ordered. Has raced against some better than looks fields (Elusive Fox, Pennington, Wishful Tomcat) and I dont think he wants any part of sprinting so feel free to throw out the two on the page. Now look closely and you can see some sneaky turf form. Getting Garcia doesnt hurt. At 10-1 he is p3 material.
2- May have ran better than the 8-5 favorite last time as he came from farther back in a very slow pace. Lezcano probably had the choice of either the 2 or 8 in their LAST race and went with the 8 but Castellano may be the man for the job. Theres nothing that makes you jump out of your seat in regards to his first two turf races on the page or his turf record for that matter but the recent trainer switch may have triggered a light in this 7 year old gelding and in trying to beat the 8-5 favorite I will make him my top choice
8- Tough. He will be tough. Almost always seems to run a nice race on the turf as he has been in the money in 7 of 10 attempts over the grass. Having said that 8-5 seems a little short and while he might win he is not worth 8-5 in win plays.

Belmont Wednesday 9/23

As most of you know we are very big pick 3 players so I will post some pick 3 plays for Wednesday here:

Race 1:
1- The rail draw for this second time starter doesn't thrill me. The short layoff doesnt bother me either. It looks he got some pressure last time which shows he might have some talent. However from this post and having on one race under his belt I have to let him beat me.
2- I really like this horse. I do. But I'm not buying his new found dirt form. I see two perfect trips against suspect fields. I like the post a lot for his style and he should get a great ground saving stalking trip in a race that should have some decent pace. However, at his short price I dont believe he is good enough to beat these.
3- Immediately throw out the last race as he needed a lengthy layoff. Looking closely I see some sneaky good form. I might be forcing a price here but I think he may like sprinting better. I think he will get the best trip in the race. Seems to be a new horse since his last layoff and at 12-1 ML for p3 purposes I'm buying. If your cash strapped don't be shy to leave this one out though.
4- A wise man once told me Richard Dutrow could train a horse up to a race better than any trainer in the business. And you know what? I've found that to be very true. This horse is only 3 and already has posted a 92 beyer as a young 2 year old. As the second choice on the board I have to say he is my top pick.
5- I dont think he is a need the lead horse. It may look that way but I think if he relaxes he can be dangerous. Having said that I see him getting in a duel with the 1 and 7 and having the worst trip of them all. On top of that he should have won the race 3 back and cameback to beat a more than suspect field. His beyers look appealing and I hope he is overbet for that reason. It would probably be a safe bet to assume Ramon Dominguez was offered this mount however he is on my longshot 3 ;). Just another reason to leave this one out.
6- I'll throw out his mile race right off the bat. I'll even forgive the one before that because it was a tough field, fast pace, he was wide and had some trouble. So lets start 3 back. For those who dont know Fateh Field cameback to win recently and right after that last race (the one on Aug 5) ran a trouble 2nd I believe (maybe 3rd). The point is that race is very live as Citifest cameback to also beat a pretty solid field. I know it was turf and I wouldnt argue with you if you said this guy's best two races were on the turf but he was definitely not bad on the dirt. The ONLY reason this horse is 20-1 is based off his last two races and I have legitimate reasons to throw both of them out. The first two races of his career are stellar. This guy is a must use in any exotic horizontally or vertically.
7- Ah the best post in the race goes to the favorite. How disappointing. I probably would have tried to beat him if it werent for his post. In my opinion, his races are dressed up and the competition has always been overrated, meaning the guys he has run against are not as good as people think. Expect him to go off as a heavy favorite and expect it to be close at the end. I dont think this guy will live up to the odds he will go off at at all. Having said that he could win and I'll be using him in the pick 3 but dont be shy to try and beat him.

3,4,6,7 in the first leg

Play of the Day

Fairplex is here and therefore Slacker and myself have taken some time off. However every once in awhile a play comes along that you have to make. That play will be coming at Fairplex on September 24th. In the 9th race Wendoffer should win. I am hoping to maybe sneak 5-2 on her. If so you can bet there will be a substantial bet on her. As always, good luck.

Horse to Bet

A horse from my watch list is making an appearance on Sunday at Fairgrounds. He'll be going against what should be a heavily favored recapturetheglory. My horse is King Dan with a ML of 5-1. Very confident in this one and expecting a big race. Looks like he might get some pressure but I'm not too worried. Should stay around 5-1 but honestly I could see this one going up or down.

There is a 3 yr old on the derby trail named Kopitar. If any of you know Kopitar is a great hockey player for the Kings. This is a horse to watch as he had 2 beautiful wins in a row before a troubled 6th in his stakes debut. Keep an eye on him.

Friday, Saturday

Saturday is Sunshine Millions Day and finding good value is pretty much guaranteed. Junior and I will be posting not only our individual picks but also how we plan to wager on each of the eight competitive races along with any others we feel have good shots at winning. After we both put in our plays Junior will then post what we decided to play as a team, because that is what ultimately decides your fate at the track. You can pick great horses at great odds but in this game you are only as good as the wager you put in, not because you have great picks. This is the type of Saturday horseplayers look forward to, not only because of the quality and quantity of the fields, but it is on these days a horse you really like can be 5-1 or 6-1 as opposed to 2-1, and that is when you have to attack.

Planning to make a play tomorrow (Friday) on a horse I really like hoping that it will get us some extra ammo for Saturday's blockbuster. It comes in Race 7 at Santa Anita and it is #8 Preemo. He came through for Junior and I on December 13th at Hollywood Park where he scored at about 4-1. His performance that day was even better than it looked because he was right up on the lead getting challenged from his inside and outside, but he put everyone away and strided home impressivly. His trainer gave him a month to get ready for tomorrow's race and with some nice workouts showing and breaking from a cozy outside post which is always an advantage on the downhill turf I am looking for another impressive performance. He is 5-1 on the morning line and if he is anywhere near that a soild win wager will be placed. Also, because I believe there are only two others in here that have a chance against him there should be a strong exacta play as well.

The Play: WIN PLACE on #8 Preemo
Exactas: 8/6,7 then reversed 6,7 with 8

Good luck and back tomorrow with Saturdays plays.

MLK Day? Or Pay Day?

Santa Anita 1/19/09

There is money to be won today folks. Let me go race by race for you:

Race 1: #6 Figeac. Very confident in this horse although it is a tough race. My second pick is the 3 Trumpet Player Jay and third pick is the 5 His Sisters Mister. You can play the three horse exacta box there with a win on 6.

Race 2: Top pick is #6 Uffizi. Not as confident in this one and the other two are the 1 Kris Silver and the 3 Madcuff. The outisde horse Maroon is also dangerous if your looking for another.

Race 3: Really like #3 Joy Division. Also the 6 Salah Pick Six and the 8 Let'spickupthepace should both be tough.

Race 4: This one's a little more open. You might want to pass it but my top pick is the 8 Magna Cum Laude. The other i like (not in order) are 1 Larrylarrylarry, 7 Trueno, 10 Six Pack Man and 11 Captain Charisma.

Race 5: This race is all about the 5 Hype. If he is near his 2-1 ML its a bet.

Race 6: Hardest race of the day. My top pick is the 2 Masterly. I think the longest shot on the board 9 Gandolf has a big shot in here. The 6 Be Realistic definitley looks tough. The other I like are 3 Scandalous and 4 Midwesterner.

Race 7: Really like a horse coming out of a maiden here and therefore should be a nice price. That is the 5 Point Attended. The others with big shots in here are 2 Ventana and 8 Princeandrew. Look out for 4 Arashi Cat too.

Race 8: Now get this my top pick is.....the 1 Cover Magic at 20-1!!! Really good feeling about this one. Has had some trouble and I like the blinkers off move. Should relax more and be geared up for a big move. The others are 6 Artiste Royal and 10 Spring House. the 3 Marsh Side also has a shot.

Race 9: Top pick is 12 Hurley's Way. There are three others I like and those are (not in order) 5 You Wood, 6 Rise Above and 9 Zephaniah.

Good Luck it is a VERY valuable day so play it!

A Lesson to Share with All

In the 8th race today at Fair Grounds the 6 horse went off as the 3-1 second choice. Having not raced in a year and beyers below average for the race I didn't think twice about betting against her. That was where I made a mistake. This horse should become an instant bet as it appears obvious the betting public must know something or the horse wouldnt be the second choice. If you see something like this in the future, its probably a smart play.

Fair Grounds Race 9 play

So the play of the day today for me is win/place on 8 Terryhowieandjimmy. The exacta box is 4,6,8. The top two are 4,8 so I'm playing that box as well as the 4,6,8. I really like 4,8 here if you haven't noticed. For those big ticket players I would suggest doing 4,8 with 4,6,8 with ALL in a trifecta. Also, check my earlier posts for P4 and P3 plays. That P3 play costs 6 dollars so you could do that 10 times for 60 and it could be a nice little payout. Good luck!

Wednesday Result, introducing Junior

Unfortunately neither of our top picks came in Gulfstream's 5th today, but Junior did have the winner in his top three and I had the the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in there so overall I thought they were decent picks. Junior and I will also put our plays together a lot of the time so you can see them and play them if you'd like. Speaking of Junior it was no surprise at all to see him make an excuse for his top pick not winning. While his claim of a bad start for a speed horse has validity to it you will rarely see him come out and just say "my horse just wasn't good enough and it wasn't a good play." It's ok because he still has a lot of learning to do. Things like "he had a bad trip", "he got a bad ride", "he would have won if...." blah blah blah are things you will see very often from Junior so be ready, but he is getting good at this stuff so I will give him some credit. Don't forget our play for tomorrow at Fair Grounds, hopefully Terryhowieandjimmy will come through.

Gulfstream Result

Do NOT read on if you dont want to know the result of race 5 at Gulfstream. For those that watched the race my top play 9 Exchanging Kisses was off slow and therefore couldnt get the lead. That cost him the race. Sorry but sometimes when I think I have the best horse and the break costs them the race I have to pout. Beside that though one of my top 3 picks at 21-1 came through for the win. I hope someone had that. I think this is a horse to watch on the turf by the way. Also don't forget Exchanging Kisses next time out.

Slacker, Oh Slacker

After I saw Slacker's latest post I decided to check out the race for myself. Upon investigation, I came up with my own play. The 9 Exchanging Kisses is the win/place play here. Should have the lead to himself. The horse he beat by over 3 lengths two starts back has comeback to win 2 allowance races in a row both in impressive fashion. Is a mile his distance? I'm not sold, but thats why your getting 4-1 on the ML and its a risk I like taking here. To finish off the exacta there are two horses I also really like in here. The 4 Man Above and the 11 Storming Off. Excuse Man Above's last race and look at his last turf race. Very impressive. Trujillo who was on for that race is back aboard. Once again I have a little issue with the distance but at 12-1 ML he is an exacta gift. Finally, Storming Off has a closing kick I haven't seen from anyone else in this field on a consistent basis. He races his heart out everytime and is always right in there and is a must use in all plays. He did lose to a horse by the name of Key Event on Oct 12 and Slacker and I have a grudge against Key Event as he cost us a 50,000 trifecta by nosing out our horse for third. Yes, the tri paid $50,000 but I digress. If Storming Off goes off anywhere near 6-1 I will be fairly shocked. He and Exchanging Kisses are my top two in here. Good luck!

Wednesday Play - Gulfstream Race #5

Wednesday's 5th race at Gulfstream is a competitive 35,000 claiming race at one mile on the turf. Top pick here is #3 Glee Club who is 6-1 on the ML. There appears to be enough speed to set up his late kick and with him breaking from the 3 post he should have a ground saving trip. He had a nice last workout and has run well at this track in the past. There are quite a few other prime contenders in here but for the exacta box #11 Storming Off is an ultra consistent performer who can be on or off the pace (6-1 ML) and #5 True Dancer (10-1 ML) is a good fit with this group. The horse I am leaving out is #6 One Eyed Joker who is the ML favorite. I have nothing against senior citizens but I will let this 11 year old beat me today.
The Play:
Win-Place #3 Glee Club
Exacta Box #3,5,11
Good luck.

Thursday Play of Day Junior Style

Let me start off by saying Slacker's handicapping is not very good. In this case however, I must agree Terryhowieandjimmy looks like a real steal. This is a bet you should NOT pass up. Just read Slacker's post for more details as to why. The main horse I'm scared of in this race is the 6 Can't Beat It. This one has a lot of backclass and is coming off a very impressive race. The 6 is definitley my second choice in here and could be an exacta play with terryhowieandjimmy. Others to watch are the 4 Evade and the 7 Fifty Five.

Something I have learned from my racing experience is that when you have a single like Terryhowieandjimmy who you love you should play P3 and P4s around that horse. On my flight today I took some time to study the late P3 and P4. My plays are as follows:

P4: 2,3,5,7,8 with 5 with 8 with 1,7,8,9,10,11
P3: 5 with 8 with 1,7,8,9,10,11

Thursday Play of the Day

Race 9 at Fair Grounds. #8 terryhowieandjimmy is 8-1 on the ML and anything near that is good enough for a win place bet. There are some nice horses in here with some back class but feel this horse is an up and comer and the fact that he likes the Fair Grounds turf couse only adds to his appeal. He had a nice sprint prep race for this in which three horses coming out of the race came back to run 1-2-3 in their folliwing race so the race looks live and terryhowieandjimmy came with a nice late run to set him up nicely for this. Some exacta or trifecta plays for this race will come later but we definitely have our key horse for exotic plays.

Santa Anita 1/11/09

Race 7: Win on 5 Soda Pop Kid. Exacta Box 3 Rhetorically, 5 Soda Pop Kid and 6 Sanquine.

Trying to beat a vulnerable favorite in 7 Funny Me and another horse 2 Squallcreek who doesnt seem to have the 2nd gear needed in a turf race. Soda Pop Kid makes sense here and is a solid 7-2 price bet down from 12-1 ML. Rosario goes to 3 Rhetorically instead of 8 El Martillo and he could surprise at 20-1. The 6 looks to be lone speed and should have this race down to a crawl. He is also a lightly raced horse with room to improve and could also surprise at a nice 8-1 price.

Race 8: Win on 6 Lady Lumberjack.

The others I like in here are 2 Haka, 4 Dave's Revenge, 7 Will O Way, 9 Toro Bonito. After a quick look at the odds it seems the betting public agrees that those five have a significant advantage over the rest of the field. However, Lady Lumberjack is sitting at a very juciy 4-1 right now. That is a good bet. If you made me play an exacta it would be 2,6,7. My order of finish would be 6, 7, 2, 9, 4. I need 4 Dave's Revenge to prove to me her 89 beyer wasnt just the result of a very good field and therefore time and it is very possible she will prove just that.
